ENGL 501: The Structure of Modern English

An advanced study of the modern English language focusing on grammar and style.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Explain principles of English grammar and syntax.
2. Compose effectively in multiple forms by combining the rules of English grammar and syntax.
3. Appraise diversity in language use and dialect across geographic regions.
4. Interpret nonfiction texts through morphological, syntactic, and grammatical analysis.
