HIST 65000: Teaching the History Survey Course

This course is designed to raise fundamental questions about how and why we teach survey courses at the college level. These questions may successfully be answered in a variety of ways depending on the subject and the personality of the teacher but the questions remain constant and central. We will talk about core concepts, teaching materials, classroom strategies and tactics, grading and evaluation. This course is intended to help orient a graduate student on the road toward teaching well. Along the journey, we will discuss who we are, the relationship of teaching and research, directions in the profession, and the meaning of life.
